The Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Retired Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath, has announced stricter enforcement of standards for importing communication equipment.
Speaking to the media, he emphasized that illegal imports of communication equipment without meeting proper standards will no longer be possible and warned that legal action will be taken against violators.
The TRCSL has also reiterated that the deadline for registering mobile phone IMEI numbers will expire on January 28 2025. Devices with unregistered IMEI numbers after this date will no longer function on local telephone networks.
The Director General assured that networks with devices registered before the deadline will not face any disruptions. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with regulations and improve telecommunications standards in the country.
